    0 New Classroom Robotics Kit Available

    The Classroom Robotics Kit from Studica Robotics is now available! This kit is ideal for use in the classroom and for robotics teams learning and preparing for robot competitions like FTC, FRC, WorldSkills, WRO, and RoboCup. The Studica Robotics platform is complete, affordable, and very compatible with other existing building systems. The VMX Robotics Controller allows you to program in C++, Java, Python, and ROS; making it a great teaching tool for coding and allowing students to prepare for competitions. This comprehensive building system offers a wide variety of hardware, electronics, motion, and structural components. There is also very little need for a machine shop because the structural components are all designed to work easily together.

    Classroom Robotics Kit

    This classroom robotics set includes a variety of parts that your students can use to create a robot. These robots can be used for competitions like the FIRST Tech Challenge. If your team aspires to take part in FTC but hasn't started yet, this is an excellent solution for getting up to speed and practicing. What will you find in this kit?

    • Classroom Robotics KitVMX Robotics Controller - This controller can be programmed in C++, Java, Python, and ROS. It can be used as a Robot Control System or Vision/Motion processor that supports C++ and Java. It integrates Gigabit Ethernet, USB3 prots, navX-IMU, and built-in Wifi and Bluetooth. It offers a multi-core Linux computing platform that offers lots of USB IO for expansion. It also has a CAN bus for high-speed, real-time communication between devices.
    • Titan Quad Motor Controller - This is a powerful, 4-channel CAN-based motor controller that includes a built-in fuse box (can be used for DC motors up to 20A).
    • Structure Components - This kit includes a variety of U-Channel and Low Profile U-Channel components. You'll find a variety of beams, flats, and brackets.
    • Motion Components - Including pulleys, servos, wheels, slides, bushings, rack and pinion set, and bearings.
    • You'll also get a storage bin, an assortment of screws and nuts, tools, a 12V 3000 mAh NiMH battery pack, and a charger.

    In this article, we will discuss how you can Build Better Robots® with Studica Robotics. This unique and versatile robotics construction platform offers everything you need to build or modify a robot quickly. You have the option of selecting what robot parts you need or purchasing a robotics kit. This building system is based on aluminum channels, bearings, gears, and precision shafts. With our multipurpose hole pattern, components can be easily connected, with no machine shop or special equipment. This hole pattern also allows for compatibility with many existing build systems. There are a wide variety of options available from structural and motion components.
     

    Robot Parts Available

    At Studica, you will find a variety of structure components, motion components, and electronics.

    • Structure Components - There are U-channel and low-profile U-channel components.  You'll find flat brackets, irregular brackets, mounting brackets, and plates. Hinges, axles, shafts, spacers, standoffs, and more.
    • Motion Components - Choose from motors, servo motors, wheels, slide rails, pulleys, belts, bushings, bearings, chains, sprockets, shock absorbers collars, couplings, gearings solutions, and more.
    • Electronics - Robotic sensors, controllers, cables, wiring, power switches, batteries, FPV (first-person view), and remote devices are available.

    0 Results are in from the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Competition

    We are so excited to share the results of the WorldSkills 2022 Special Edition Mobile Robotics competition that was held in Bordeaux, France in October. Before we do, we want to express our gratitude to WorldSkills, all the competitors, and all those dedicated to making this event happen. This is an important event to build awareness and skills in Mobile Robotics. It was so exciting to see teams from all over the world competing again.


     

    Results: WorldSkills Mobile Robotics

    WorldSkills Mobile Robotics WinnersBefore we list the results, we want to celebrate all the teams and competitors. Everyone did a remarkable job and we appreciate your efforts. Here are the results from Skill 23, Mobile Robotics, WorldSkills 2022 Special Edition.

    • Gold Medal: Team China with Kunpeng Hou and Gaoyuan Tang - 803 points.
    • Silver Medal: Team Korea with Youngseo Kwak and Hanho Gwak - 787 points.
    • Bronze Medal: Team Japan with Ryo Iwamoto and Koko Kawakami  - 769 points.

    About this Year's Competition

    This year, the competition was focused on the increasing role of mobile robots to support medical staff in a hospital setting. The mobile robots were tasked with managing the distribution of essential items for the hospital. The WorldSkills 2022 Special Edition Mobile Robotics competition gave teams the mission to design, build and operate a mobile robot that could meet the following requirements.

    1. The robot must read and interpret information presented on the "Work Order Board" in the performance environment.
    2. Robots must move in Autonomous Control Mode within the provided performance evaluation environment.
    3. Robots must take control of the various target objects including cubes and gurneys from different locations and deliver them to the specified destination locations in the performance environment.

This kit provides over 1,500 robotic components including brackets, beams, wheels, motors, servos, electronics, and much more.     This is an exciting time. Even though the WorldSkills Shanghai competition had to be canceled in response to the pandemic and control restrictions in China, right now there are competitors are headed to Bordeaux, France for the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Competition 2022 Special Edition. This is no small victory. The WorldSkills organization found a way to make this important event happen. This year as part of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition there are 62 skills competitions that are happening across 15 countries and regions with 1,000 competitors. Studica is thrilled to be a Skill Sponsor for Mobile Robotics.

    In addition to Mobile Robotics, Bordeaux will also be hosting the following skills competitions: Digital Construction, Health and Social Care, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Plastering and Drywall Systems, and Stonemasonry. The opening ceremony will take place on October 18th. The competitions will be held from October 19 to the 22nd. The closing ceremony is scheduled for October 23rd. This competition has teams from many countries competing including South Africa, France, India, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Finland, Columbia, China, Japan, and many more. We are so excited to see these competitors in action and in person!  

    Preparing for the Mobile Robotics Competition

    Studica Robotics proudly supports the WorldSkills Jamaica National Skills Competition (NSC) 2021. This virtual event will take place on November 5th, 2021. The theme of this event is "Investing in Skills Development: Shaping the Future with the Power of Skills". The competition will be a blend of virtual and limited live face-to-face interactions from St. Elizabeth and Kingston. See dedicated young people showcase the skills that they have been developing to shape a better future for themselves, their country, and their families. 

    0 EuroSkills Graz 2021 - Mobile Robotics Recap

    This year, after being postponed in 2020, the EuroSkills 2021 competition was held in the beautiful city of Graz, Austria. The event included over 400 competitors from 19 countries. Kudos to all who made this event such a success.

    With all the added complexities of hosting an event with COVID-19 related challenges, everyone did an amazing job! Studica proudly supported the Mobile Robotics competition at this event with our Studica Robotics products and know-how. Studica Robotics is an affordable robotics building platform that offers structural and motion components that work easily together. There is no need for a machine shop and Studica Robotics components are compatible with many existing build systems. As a leading provider of educational technologies and over 35 years of experience in the fields of STEM and robotics, Studica is committed to the development of skills across the globe. We were excited to see the different robots that the teams came up with and are looking forward to the next event in St. Petersburg in 2023.

    Mobile Robotics at EuroSkills

    EuroSkills Graz Mobile Robotics 21 AMobile Robotics engineers design, maintain, develop new applications, and conduct research about potential applications for robots. Mobile Robotics is quickly evolving and plays an important role in a variety of industries including manufacturing, aerospace, medicine, agriculture, and aerospace.

    At this year’s Mobile Robotics competition participation was lighter than usual due to the pandemic. However, the teams who participated all did a wonderful job. The team from Austria had a strong performance. Team Russia won the gold with an impressive performance. Watch the video below to see Team Russia’s waste management robot in action. The Russian team came in first for the entire EuroSkills Graz 2021 event. They earned 32 medals overall.

    Competing in 2023

    Russia will host EuroSkills St. Petersburg from August 16-20, 2023. This event promises to be the biggest and greatest EuroSkills ever. We are looking forward to the new Mobile Robotics competition with many new participants. This event was originally scheduled for 2022, however, with the schedule changes caused by the pandemic all future EuroSkills competitions will continue to take place in alternate years to WorldSkills competitions. The next WorldSkills competition will be held in China. WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 is scheduled for October 12-17, 2022. Studica is also a Global Partner and the official exclusive product supplier for the WorldSkills Mobile Robotics Competition.
